Copper Slag
Description
Copper slag is a by-product from the copper smelting process. It is one of the most efficient and economical surface preparation abrasive available. Its sharp hard cutting edges allow for fast cleaning action and hence are excellent for surface profile preparation. The raw-material for STAR-GRIT’s Copper slag is supplied by Sterlite Industries India Limited, Tuticorin; one of the largest producers of copper in India, State-of-the-art technology is adopted in their smelter to produce high quality raw-material. Strict quality control measures are adhered to at the smelter to ensure that the end product conforms to highest international standards.
COPPER SLAG GRIT
APPEARANCE : Black granules, free-flowing grit
FLASH POINT : Non-flammable
SOLUBILITY IN WATER : Insoluble
Copper Slag is a by-product in the manufacturing of copper. It is a low cost
expendable material suited for open blast cleaning. Due to its low silica content,
it does not pose any health hazards created by silica sand. Its sharp, hard cutting
edges provides a fast cleaning action and excellent surface profile preparation.
Copper Slag is one of the most economical abrasives available for cleaning steel surfaces
where recovery and reuse are not practical.
Coarse grade is used for the removal of heavy corrosion and coating leaving a surface profile about 100 to 120 microns.
Medium grade is used for cleaning mill scale and medium rust removal, creating of surface profile of about 60 to 80 microns.
Fine grade is used on new steel to remove mill scale and light rust resulting in the surface profile of about 40 microns.
